Bar stools are one of the most functional yet stylish additions to any kitchen. They transform an island into a social hub — perfect for casual breakfasts, entertaining guests, or keeping the cook company.
Bar stool height depends on your counter or island height. For a standard counter (36 inches), choose stools with a seat height of 24–26 inches. For bar-height counters (42 inches), go for 28–30 inch seat heights.
Backless stools tuck neatly under the counter and suit smaller kitchens. Stools with backs offer more comfort for longer sitting and work well in open-plan spaces where they're more visible.
Allow at least 6 inches between stools and 12 inches from the edge of the counter for comfortable seating. For a 60-inch island, three stools work perfectly.
